AUTISM


A childhood originating disorder of marked introversion and withdrawal, characterized by delayed speech development, learning disabilities, periods of silence interspersed with periods of tantrums. Various biochemical factors now examined are food intolerances and allergies, exposure to lead early in life, increased need for vitamin B6, folic acid and zinc, serotonin imbalance and yeast overgrowth. An overload of the mineral manganese contained in infant formulas may cause learning disabilities.

Diet:
Avoid allergenic foods, processed foods, chemical additives, sugar, white flour products and junk foods. Remove salicylates, artificial colors, flavors and preservatives from the diet. Treat toxicity from lead and other metals. Eat a high protein, low carbohydrate diet to control blood sugar levels, with plenty of protein snacks all day.

Nutrients:
Vitamin B6, magnesium, folic acid, zinc, calcium, vitamin B complex, E, choline (under supervision). Vitamin B15 to stimulate speech.

Herbs:
Gingko biloba.
