GLAUCOMA

Group of eye diseases characterized by increased pressure in the fluid of the eyeball, resulting in atrophy of the optical nerve and blindness. Some people may not experience any symptoms, that is why it is important that regular eye exams be taken. In acute glaucoma there is severe throbbing pain in the eye with blurred vision, nausea and vomiting. In chronic glaucoma there is persistent elevation of the eye pressure and gradual loss of peripheral vision.

Diet:
Avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol; limit fluid intake. Eat a diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruits and plenty of fish like salmon, mackerel, herring, and halibut.

Anti-oxidant vitamins A, beta-carotene, C, chromium, magnesium.

Herbs:
Eyebright, bilberry, gingko biloba.
