A painful condition characterized by pain and tenderness in the muscles. Symptoms include pain, fatigue, stiffness, sleep disturbances, anxiety, mood swings, poor concentration, among others. The condition worsens by damp weather and stress. Most sufferers are predominantly females, and the severity increases with age. Cause is largely unknown but it is thought to be related to hypothyroidism, ovarian hormonal problems, the adrenal glands, viruses such as Epstein-Barr, toxicity and chemical sensitivities.
Reduce intake of refined carbohydrates, processed foods with artificial additives and carbonated drinks. Increase intake of fresh, organically-grown fruits and vegetables, olive oil, fish, wholegrains, legumes.
Multivitamins and minerals, especially vitamins C and B complex, zinc, magnesium.
