Infections caused by minute organisms not visible by ordinary microscopes, collectively known as viruses. Their diminutive size allows them to pass through cellular filters, establish themselves in cells, and use cell nutrients for their own metabolic and reproductive needs. Viral infections are characterized by chills, fever, headaches, muscular and joint aches, and cannot be cured by drugs; only the body's immune system can do that.
