We get a great many of our vitamins, minerals and a great variety of other beneficial compounds from fruits. We also get much of our soluble fiber from them. What is more, fruit eaten between meals helps to cut down our appetite for the next meal.

Fresh fruits of all kinds, preferably in season. Also dried fruits, especially prunes that can be preserved without sulfur and are good bowel movers. But brush your teeth after dried fruits since they contain a lot of sugar and stick to the teeth, a combination that enhances the formation of cavities.

Canned or frozen fruits with added sweeteners. The sulfur used with most dried fruit can cause allergic reactions to some people.
