Caprylic acid

Function
This is an eight-carbon short chain fatty acid of white color and soapy smell , obtained from coconut oil. It has powerful antifungal properties, the exact mechanism of which is not quite understood. It helps maintain the colon and skin microflora, as well as these of the mucous membranes and the peptic system.

Uses
It is used against intestinal candidiasis, oral and vaginal thrush, with very positive results. Caprylic acid often together with other short chain fatty acids, is used to help re-establish the normal flora of the colon, particularly after prolonged treatment with antibiotics.

Caution
Persons with gastrointestinal problems should consult with an experienced health professional before taking caprylic acid supplements.
