ANOREXIA NERVOSA

A loss of appetite caused by intense fear of becoming obese, commonly but not exclusively found among females between the ages of 12 and 22. Very few cases have physical origins, but a careful analysis of thyroid activity should be made to see if any imbalance in the production of thyroxine may be causing excess weight loss. As eating disorders are the result of deep-rooted problems, counseling and psychotherapy from a trained practitioner generally work the best, as well as group therapy.
