(Myalgic encephalomyelitis)
CFS is a viral disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, with a wide range of symptoms and hence notoriously difficult to diagnose. Food allergy may also play a role. Sufferers appear to have low concentrations of magnesium, the amino acids L-Taurine and the hormone DHEA. An overgrowth of candida in the digestive tract may also be a factor.The most common symptoms are chronic fatigue, sore throat and muscles aches, lymph node swelling, headache, loss of concentration and digestive discomfort among others.
Diet:
Eat fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains, seeds, nuts, turkey, fat fish, yogurt. Avoid fried, junk and processed foods, sugar, coffee and tea.
Nutrients:
Evening primrose oil, fish oils, magnesium, L-Taurine, DHEA vitamins B complex, C, beta-carotene, acidophilus. Take measures to boost the immune system.
Herbs:
Black currant oil (contains GLA), echinacea, astragalus, ginseng.
