INSOMNIA

Habitual sleeplesness, which is a symptom not a disease. Causes include stress, nutrient imbalance, hormonal changes, indigestion, etc.

Diet:
Foods high in tryptophan, like turkey, bananas, dates, figs, tuna, whole grains, yogurt, prior to bedtime. Avoid caffeine, tobacco, sugar, junk foods, refined carbohydrates. Also avoid foods high in tyramine like aged cheeses, yeast products, liver, herring, chocolate, beer and wine.

Calcium, magnesium, vitamins B complex.

Herbs:
Passion flower, skullcap, valeriana.
