MIGRAINE HEADACHES

Paroxysmal headaches usually on one side of the head, often preceded by visual or psychological disturbances, accompanied by lack of appetite, nausea, gastrointestinal upset, and followed by drowsiness. Causes are not known, but probable risk factors are family history, blood vessel instability, hormonal imbalance, nerve disorder, serotonin deficiency.

Diet:
Balanced diet, including almonds, cherries, fennel, garlic, parsley, pineapple, watercress. Avoid alcohol, animal proteins, chocolate, citrus fruits, dairy products, fried and fatty foods, grains, yellow cheeses, lots of salt, aspirin and monosodium glutamate.

Nutrients:
Multivitamins and minerals, vitamin B6, magnesium, 5-HTP.

Herbs:
Feverfew, ginger, rosemary.
