Recurrent set of symptomes occurring 7-14 days prior to the onset of menstruation. These symptoms typically are abdominable bloating, anxiety, backacke, breast tenderness, pain or swelling, depression, fatigue, irritability, libido changes, uterus cramps, craving for sweets. Causes appear to be related to elevated estrogen and reduced progesterone 5-10 days before menses.
Diet:
Avoid alcohol, coffee, salt, sugar, tobacco and fast foods, junk foods. Increase consumption of plant foods, soy, low-fat dairy products.
Nutrients:
Calcium, magnesium, vitamin B6 and B12, niacin, vitamins C and E, iron, folic acid, evening primrose oil.
Herbs:
Agnus castus, dong quai.
