ULCERATIVE COLITIS

Ulceration of the mucous membranes of the colon. Usual causes are food allergies, improper digestion and a diet rich in refined carbohydrates and reduced intake of fiber. Contrary to the commoness of the disease in western societies, it is rare among people, such as tribal Africans, who consume a fiber-rich diet.

Diet:
Balanced fiber-rich diet with steamed vegetables and fruits, rice, potatoes, fish, olive oil, oats, carrot juice. Avoid refined carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour, alcohol, coffee, yeast in excess, hydrogenated fats, shellfish, peanuts, fried foods. Check for allergies to wheat and dairy products.

Nutrients:
Acidophilus, digestive enzymes, magnesium, antioxidant combination, L-Glutamine, fish oils, vitamins B complex.

Herbs:
Aloe vera juice, chamomile, peppermint oil, slippery elm, milk thistle, licorice.
