Bananas contain high amounts of vitamin B6, essential for the formation of the iron part of hemoglobin. They have a high potassium and low sodium content and may help protect against high blood pressure. It is a source of fiber and resistant starch, soothing the stomach and protecting its lining against excessive acid and ulcers.
Caution: Persons on levodopa should avoid excessive consumption, as vitamin B6 may interfere with the drug. The same warning applies for persons on MAO-inhibitor antidepressants.
