Celery is another excellent cancer fighter. It seems to contain eight different groups of anticancer compounds such as phthalides and polyacytelenes that help detoxify carcinogens. Some of its compounds help reduce blood pressure. It originates in the Mediterranean area, but here celery has a more pungent smell, the stalks are thin and wiry and used mostly as condiments, and what is usually eaten is the delicious root.
Caution: Care must be taken by persons who are allergic to mugwort, birch pollen or fennel. Such people may be also allergic to celery.
