Natural food supplements, just like vitamins and minerals, would be unnecessary if our foods contained all the ingredients they did in our ancestors’ times. Current research shows, however, this is far from the case. Exhausted soils, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, refrigeration, processing, canning, extra fat, salt and sugar, other additives, exposure, distribution and marketing strategies, all these and more have affected our food supply to a smaller or larger extent. Our foods are no longer the same as these of our ancestors. For these reasons, we must make up for what our foods lack, for otherwise we may create a deficiency, which sooner or later is bound to become a disorder. Below are briefly described some of the most common natural supplements, recommended by professional nutritionists.
