Function
Single-celled organism rich in many basic nutrients, such as B vitamins, amino acids and minerals. One half its weight is protein and 12 percent combined RNA and DNA. It has significant amounts of the important minerals chromium and selenium, but also of potassium and phosphorus, the latter requiring calcium supplementation to avoid excess of phosporus.

Uses
It helps sugar metabolsim, and may be helpful in eczema, fatigue, gout and heart disorders. It strengthens the immune system and helps counteract the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation during cancer treatment.

Caution
Yeasts in general should be avoided by persons with osteoporosis or candidiasis. Live yeasts such as baker's yeast should also be avoided. Live yeasts tend to deplete the body of B vitamins and other nutrients. Therefore, home made bread products are best eaten the second day, when the live cells have been eliminated.
